In this workshop the three main components of successful artwork- concept, process and aesthetic, will be discussed. Drag characters, developing act concepts and learning methods of conventional masculine presentation will be a reoccurring theme throughout the class. We will discuss artists and their work as well as cover topics like industry vs. community and the process behind making artistic choices. The workshop will be part discussion and part activity. All artists of any skill level from amateur to professional will be able to gain knowledge in order to help their work grow and flourish.

What to bring/where: Notepad and pen, comfy movement/sitting clothes

Dusty Bahls is a fiery drag sensation and producer known for his ridiculous antics and charismatic stage presence. With over 17 years as a professional working artist, Dusty has experience in a variety of art forms ranging from a video editor and videographer for Playboy, Inc. to sound designer and photographer to DJ opening for artists such as KC and the Sunshine Band, The Pointer Sisters and Sheena Easton. Not only is Dusty a drag king and multimedia expert, but he's also a fire performer who has been spinning his blazing balls across North America for the past nine years. In 2018, Dusty was given the title of MisTer Illinois Gay Rodeo and has been seen regularly in a sash and 10 gallon hat ever since. As a performer, Dusty prides himself on creating a man worth celebrating on stage, and creating quality, amusing narratives to share with his audiences. He believes that other performers can create the humans they want to see in the world through their art and performance work. With a twinkle in his eye, Dusty will leave you thinking about Bahls all night long.
